The once-promising dream of a Conservative renaissance in British Columbia has been reduced to smouldering political rubble. Kerry-Lynne Findlay, whose brief and bruising tenure as leader of the Conservative Party of British Columbia (CPBC) was defined by an unrelenting internal revolt, finally threw in the towel this afternoon.

Her resignation, effective immediately, leaves a party in tatters just as [whispers of a potential snap election](https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/david-eby-coy-on-possible-snap-election-as-elections-bc-drops-possible-dates/?ref=provincialtimes.ca) by Premier David Eby reach a fever pitch. Eby, surely watching this dumpster fire from the safety of the Premier's office, now has the perfect excuse to hit the reset button, hoping to capitalize on a centre-right opposition that has spent more time cannibalizing itself than fighting the actual government.

Findlay's was the inevitable conclusion to an amateurish, high-stakes circus. Since taking the reins in May 2026, her obsession with polarizing, far-right policies and a series of disastrous staffing decisions turned her caucus into a ghost town.

Under her watch, the Conservative Party haemorrhaged credibility, resulting in the defection of 14 MLAs. Eight of those former Conservatives have already jumped ship to join CentreBC—a spiritual successor to the now-defunct BC United, signalling a desperate attempt to salvage some semblance of a moderate conservative movement.

It is a spectacular fall from grace for a movement that capitalized on widespread "Trudeau fatigue." For nearly a century, the Conservative Party of BC was an irrelevant fringe, only finding new life because voters were fed up with the status quo. The BC Liberals had understood the assignment, rebranding as BC United to keep the centre-right coalition together.

For the BC Conservatives, the experiment of veering sharply right has proven to be a fatal miscalculation, alienating the suburban and moderate voters required to actually kick the NDP out of power.

[In her parting statement,](https://x.com/KerryLynneFindl/status/2101771478027075604?ref=provincialtimes.ca) Findlay attempted to frame her exit as a selfless act—lamenting that *“energy that should have been directed toward challenging the NDP... has instead been spent fighting amongst ourselves.”* She even tried to strike a tone of martyrdom, claiming, ***“Sometimes leadership means knowing when the interests of something larger than yourself require you to step aside.”***

While Findlay says she will remain the candidate for Abbotsford-Mission, she leaves behind a movement that, rather than having provided a credible alternative to the BC NDP, *has become a cautionary tale of how quickly ideological purity can destroy electoral chances.*

With the right-wing vote in absolute shambles and the opposition fracturing into rival camps, Eby has the perfect political runway to call a snap election. By trying to drag the province further to the right, **Findlay may have inadvertently handed the Eby NDP another four years of power.**

Thousands of British Columbians tired of the *rising cost of living, failing health care, and the housing crisis* were promised an opposition that was "prepared to govern," led by a leader who could hold a caucus together. Now, as the dust settles, the question is whether there is ***anything left to salvage* before the next election is called.**
