ADAMS: When Everything Is a Grievance, Everyone Becomes a Target

One of the great ironies of the current political moment is how quickly legitimate concerns about fairness and freedom are being turned into demands for special treatment. Nowhere is this clearer than in the aftermath of the University of Oklahoma controversy, where academic standards were sacrificed not in the name of inclusion, but in the name of appeasing outrage.

Let's be clear about one thing upfront: this is not about Christianity being under attack. In fact, the opposite is happening. Christianity is being used—instrumentalized as a shield against accountability by a radical activist class that treats every criticism as persecution and every failed outcome as proof of bias. When a student submits work that does not meet basic academic expectations, the appropriate response is not to cry discrimination.

Universities exist to evaluate ideas, arguments, evidence, and clarity of thought. They do not exist to hand out participation trophies because someone wraps a badly written opinion piece in religious language. If this trend continues—where any failure is immediately reframed as oppression—then Christians, including those who strongly reject this behaviour, will inevitably become collateral damage.

Here is the uncomfortable truth: institutions do not respond to intent; they respond to risk.
