Corrections & Retractions Policy

Accuracy is a core value of The Provincial Times. While we strive to ensure that every article we publish is fair, well-sourced, and factually accurate, errors can occur. When they do, we take them seriously.

This page explains how readers can request a correction or retraction, and how those requests are evaluated.

When to Request a Correction

You should request a correction if you believe an article contains:

  • A factual error (dates, names, numbers, quotations, or attribution)
  • A mischaracterization of a verifiable event or statement
  • An omission of material context that meaningfully changes the factual understanding of the piece

Corrections are appropriate when the central thrust of the article remains accurate, but a specific detail requires clarification or amendment.

When to Request a Retraction

You may request a retraction if you believe:

  • A core claim of the article is demonstrably false
  • The article relies on information that is materially inaccurate or fabricated
  • The reporting fails to meet basic standards of verification in a way that undermines the piece as a whole

Retractions are rare and reserved for serious failures of accuracy or reporting integrity.

What Is Not Grounds for a Correction or Retraction

We do not issue corrections or retractions for:

  • Disagreements with opinion, analysis, or framing
  • Political or ideological objections
  • Discomfort with conclusions that are supported by facts
  • Requests to remove accurate but unfavourable information
  • Bad-faith attempts to suppress lawful reporting

Opinion pieces are judged on factual accuracy, not whether readers agree with the author’s viewpoint.

How to Submit a Request

To request a correction or retraction, please email:

leftlanemediagroup@tutanota

Include the following:

  1. A link to the article in question
  2. The specific passage you believe is inaccurate
  3. A clear explanation of what is wrong
  4. Credible sources or documentation supporting your claim
  5. Whether you are requesting a correction or a retraction

Anonymous requests may be reviewed, but providing your name and contact information helps us assess credibility and follow up if needed.

Our Review Process

  • All requests are reviewed by the editor
  • Claims are evaluated against original reporting, sourcing, and available evidence
  • If an error is confirmed, a correction will be issued promptly
  • Corrections are clearly labeled and appended to the original article
  • Retractions, when warranted, will be clearly noted and archived transparently

We do not quietly alter articles without disclosure.

Transparency & Accountability

When corrections are made, we aim to:

  • Preserve the original article whenever possible
  • Clearly explain what was changed and why
  • Avoid “stealth edits” that obscure the record

Retractions are rare and reserved for cases where the core premise of an article is no longer defensible.

We engage seriously with good-faith requests supported by evidence. Abusive, bad-faith, or frivolous submissions will be ignored.
