NEWSLETTER: Changes to our Clarington mayoral election coverage

To our readers, colleagues, and to the residents of Clarington,

As the editor of The Provincial Times, I have always strived to deliver fair and comprehensive coverage of the issues that matter most to our community. With the 2026 municipal election cycle beginning, we have been preparing to provide our usual in-depth analysis of the local races.

However, I am writing to you today to disclose a significant professional development that requires me to alter my personal role in this coverage.

Effective immediately, I will be abstaining from all municipal coverage regarding the Clarington mayoral race. This decision has not been made lightly, but it is a necessary one to preserve the integrity of both this publication and my professional responsibilities. I have accepted a media and communications advisor position on Mayor Adrian Foster's re-election campaign team.

It is a clear and undeniable conflict of interest for me to report on a campaign that I am actively working for. Therefore, I will be stepping away from the keyboard regarding the Clarington race to ensure that the Provincial Times' coverage of other candidates remains objective and that my journalistic duties do not cloud my personal work for the Foster campaign.

My decision to join the Foster campaign is rooted in a deep belief in the direction of our community. Mayor Foster and his team have provided consistent and predictable governance for the people of our community. Claringtonians, more now than ever, need predictability and stability as we navigate uncertain times.

Today, our community faces challenges that require experienced crisis management and a deep, practical understanding of how Clarington runs. Mayor Foster has the perspective of knowing where we've been, which is what makes him uniquely qualified to continue guiding where we are going.

The progress we have seen under his leadership is creating high-paying jobs and global opportunities right here in Clarington. Mayor Foster is a proven, capable leader, and I am proud to join his team.

While I will be absent from the Clarington beat for the duration of this campaign, I want to assure our readers that the Provincial Times will continue to operate. Furthermore, I will continue to provide full editorial coverage and oversight of the municipal race in the City of Toronto, as this does not present a conflict of interest with my work here in Clarington.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

My very best,
— Will Adams
